Elizabeth Kannan

Elizabeth’s passion for design traces back to an early introduction to America’s colonial past. Growing up in New England, she was surrounded by some of the finest examples of 18th-century American architecture. “It was a veritable master class in early American design,” she recalls. That early fascination, combined with graduate studies in the decorative arts, shaped a career deeply influenced by classical architecture, furnishings, and interiors.

Elizabeth further cultivated her expertise while serving as a curator for the Dietrich American Foundation and in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “These experiences provided an extraordinary education in connoisseurship — the art of observing, touching, and cataloging some of the finest examples of American furniture, ceramics, and silver. They taught me, firsthand, how to see color, patina, and scale, and how these elements come together to create an interior that sings.” After earning a Master’s Degree from Parsons School of Design, Elizabeth founded her boutique design firm with a project on the historic campus of the University of Delaware and today, specializes in thoughtfully tailored residential interiors. Elizabeth and her team see themselves as true partners — not only to their clients, but also to the architects, builders, landscape designers, and craftspeople with whom they collaborate.

Elizabeth lives in Chevy Chase Village with her husband and their Boykin Spaniel. They have two grown children.

Stacey White

Stacey came to design after a decades-long career in international humanitarian relief. Over the course of her work, she lived in multiple countries around the world, creating homes again and again for her young family. That experience shaped her belief that every home has its own story and, if listened to carefully, will reveal what it needs. For Stacey, the role of a designer is to honor the character of a home while thoughtfully weaving in the personalities, rhythms, and lives of the people who live there.

Stacey graduated from George Washington University with an MFA in Interior Architecture and Design in 2000. Prior to joining Elizabeth Kannan Design, she worked for HapstakDemetriou+ on hospitality and multi-residential projects. Originally from northern California, Stacey currently lives in Washington, DC and is the mother of three grown children.
